Mexicoamericano Contemporary Dance Workshop

American College Dance Association, Austin, Texas

Led by: Ilse Mayté

This 1-hour workshop will explore how the flaring and expressive aspects of the Mexican Ballet Folklorico skirt can be merged with spine undulations inspired by contemporary dance. The outcome of this workshop will be learning newly codified choreography born from the fusion of these two styles in a technique-style class beginning with a head-tail connection, centered warm-up. Mexican American and Texas border native, Ilse Mayté, melds these two cultures to provoke social justice, to seek acceptance of border culture as a separate entity from Mexican or U.S. culture, and to bring Mexican-Americans together through art. This workshop is for intermediate-level dancers ages 14+.

This workshop will take place at the American College Dance Association Festival taking place at the University of Texas at Austin.
